Unlocking Private Investment for Climate Transition Projects

Last week, BwB had the privilege of contributing to the 5th Peer-to-Peer in Barcelona (March 27-28), co-hosted by GNE Finance & Barcelona City Council. This event, under the Scalable Cities initiative, gathered key urban stakeholders to discuss innovative financial solutions for climate action.

Cities Leading the Way:

Barcelona, Dijon, Bristol, Leuven, and Lund showcased groundbreaking initiatives in PPPs, Funds, and Social & Green Bonds, alongside 8 visiting cities.

BwB’s Contribution:

  • Workshops: BwB’s Senior Analyst, María Belén Ortíz Torres and associate Blanca Rincon de Arellano provided feedback on project pitches.

  • Presentation: Belén shared insights on mobilizing private capital for public projects—highlighting the three key pillars for bankability:

Technical Feasibility

Financial Viability

Environmental Sustainability

“Cities need to be open to exploring new avenues with confidence. A strong governance structure, such as a climate investment team, is crucial for developing and implementing bankable projects. Initiatives like the Capital Hub can provide the necessary support to build local capacity.” Belén commented

A big thank you to all organizers and participants for the inspiring discussions and warm hospitality. Looking forward to continuing this collaboration!
