Engaging Greek Cities in the Race to Climate Neutrality by 2030

Engaging with Greek cities on climate ambitions

BwB Vice President, Georgios Ioulianos, recently visited Kozani, Kalamata and Ioannina, three of six Greek cities that are part of the EU’s 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities Mission, to discuss key local initiatives for ensuring they achieve climate neutrality by 2030.

These meetings reflect the strong commitment of Net Zero Cities (NZC) and the Climate City Capital Hub to supporting local communities in their transition to a sustainable future.

Key topics of discussion included:

  • Green district heating

  • Specialised programmes for upgrading the energy efficiency of buildings

  • Replacement of the public transport fleet with electric buses and hydrogen buses

  • Cost analysis and ESCO models for sustainable energy

  • Securing funding

  • Transition team recruitment and expertise

“I was delighted to see how committed the Mayors and the transition teams are to achieving the vision of the NZC mission, as well as how willing all of the stakeholders are to work together towards a more sustainable future,” commented Georgios.
