BwB participated in a two-day conference titled “Thessaloniki’s Resilience to Climate Crisis: 22 Projects for Urban Resilience & Climate Neutrality”

BwB participated in a two-day conference titled “Thessaloniki’s Resilience to Climate Crisis: 22 Projects for Urban Resilience & Climate Neutrality”, kindly organised by Municipality of Thessaloniki within the framework of the city’s Climate Neutrality Contract.

BwB’s City Finance Specialist for Greece and Cyprus, George Ioulianos, coordinated six roundtables, dedicated to each of the 6 thematic pillars of the climate contract:

  • Energy Production,

  • Buildings and Heating,

  • Transportation and Logistics,

  • Solid Waste Management,

  • Land Use and Environment,

  • Smart Cities & Governance.

The roundtables discussed latest developments in each area, upcoming projects and objectives in the pursue of making Thessaloniki a carbon-neutral city.

During the “Financial Instruments and Financial Tools in Greece and Europe” roundtable, George presented the Climate City Capital Hub, its role in the NZC mission and how it can help mission cities finance their investment plans.

“Climate neutrality is not something to be achieved by local authorities only. The contribution and support by the private sector and society are essential in hitting the 2030 target,” comments George.

Thank you, Δήμος Θεσσαλονίκης (Municipality of Thessaloniki), for the excellent organisation of this insightful event.
