Food & Agriculture Finance

Our current food systems and agricultural methods are unsustainable. While providing the sustenance that is fundamental to human survival and underpinning the livelihoods of more than 3.8 billion people, existing agri-food systems are also responsible for significant biodiversity loss, ecosystem degradation, and greenhouse gas emissions.

At the same time, climate change-related challenges, particularly the rising frequency and severity of extreme weather events, are disrupting food production and revealing the fragility of many widely used agricultural practices. With the world having already breached the 1.5°C threshold, there is an urgent need to drive climate adaptive agricultural models and strategies that will ensure food systems and supplies are robust in the face of an increasingly warm planet. This includes investing in climate-resilient crops and smart agri-tech, embracing regenerative agriculture concepts, and implementing solutions that make more efficient use of water and essential natural resources.
Without radical new approaches, agricultural systems risk exacerbating socio-environmental and food security challenges that have existential consequences for us all. Transformation in this crucial sector requires innovative agri-food solutions that can adapt to a rapidly changing climate and meet the food needs of a growing global population while promoting equitable access to resources and safeguarding biodiversity and ecosystem services.
Finance has a critical role to play in catalysing this urgently needed transformation. BwB works with governments, private companies, and community-based organisations to develop innovative financing structures that fund and operationalise sustainable agri-food initiatives across a diverse range of scales and geographies around the world. Through innovative financing solutions that mobilise public and private capital, we are supporting the shift toward climate-adaptive agriculture and ensuring food systems of the future are resilient, reliable, and equitable for all.
